Vacancy: Administrative Assistant (volunteer)

Would you like to help people who need access to legal advice that they cannot afford, and gain valuable experience in the pro bono sector at the same time? We are looking for an Administrative Assistant (volunteer) to help manage the high volume of enquiries we are receiving.

The main tasks involved are:
Fielding enquiries that come in via telephone, email and the website;
Taking details of legal issues from prospective clients;
Sending out reminders to clients about appointments and checking that any documents and information we need from them has been received;
Contacting clients by email to request feedback and monitor the feedback received; and
Monitoring the return of case records by the volunteer advisers.

Skills, Attitudes and Experience Required
Essential:
Excellent communication skills, both written and over the telephone;
Good organisational skills;
Able to use Microsoft 365 including Teams and Microsoft Forms;
Some knowledge of the legal system in England and Wales; and
Commitment to EGLAC’s aims and the longer-term value to the community of early access to legal advice, regardless of financial circumstances.

Desirable:
Experience of working for a law firm or volunteering for a legal advice clinic or law centre;
Administrative experience; and
Experience of dealing with enquiries from the public.

Time Commitment
The time commitment is either one day a week, or two half-days.

Additional Information
It is anticipated that interviews will take place (remotely) in July, with a view to a start date in September 2024;
Basic DBS checks, ID checks and references are required;
Must have access to own laptop and mobile phone; and
References are available after 6 months of volunteering.
